Alex Kotel was born in Kiev, Ukraine, and emigrated to the USA with his parents when he was 8 years old. He was raised in Portland, Oregon, and attended Marshall High School.
At 17, Alex opened his first business in commercial property maintenance, which he ran for 12 years.
In 2015, Alex started Greater Purpose Construction because he felt there was a need for a roofing company that offered excellent customer service.
The company’s name came from his belief that there must be a “greater purpose” in life. To this end, he donates money to orphanages and drug rehabilitation programs in Bangladesh and other developing countries.
Alex has been married for 17 years to his wife, Julie, who works in a children’s hospital emergency room. They have two boys—12-year-old Benny and 14-year-old Alex.
He enjoys the outdoors, including camping and fishing, but most importantly, spending time with his family.
Alex’s business philosophy is simple: “Treat every customer like they are your mother. Cater to the customer’s complete needs. Don’t leave a job until it is 100% finished.”
Slavik Vino was born in Uzbekistan and emigrated to the USA with his family in 1998 when he was 8 years old. He was raised in Portland, Oregon, and attended Reynolds High School and Mt. Hood Community College.
He then purchased a franchise in a janitorial service, which he ran for five years. After he sold the franchise, Alex contacted him about joining his company as a project manager, and he later became his partner.
Slavik has been married for five years to his wife, Katie. They have a 3-year-old son, Leo, a 2-year-old daughter, Paulina, and another child on the way due in mid-September.
Slavik loves camping, hiking, fishing, and anything else outdoors—but, just like Alex, most importantly, he enjoys spending time with his family.
Slavik’s attitude towards business is the classic: “Treat customers as you would like to be treated yourself.” He also has the utmost respect for his employees. They work hard, and he loves them for it.

Our team is composed of experienced roofers who began their careers at a young age. In 2015, four experienced roofing leaders came together to establish a company based on community values. As we expanded in the construction industry, we observed many companies facing challenges or going out of business due to declining values. Through gaining the trust of the community and improving our workmanship, we have formed a solid community of roofers. Recognizing the issues in the roofing and construction industry, we decided to take action.
